4th Generation Carpentry
Welcome to our site, and thank you for your interest! We are a multi-generational, family owned company. Our goal is to provide our customers with top quality work at an affordable price. Our motto is, “if you’re not happy, we’re not done”!
We operate on a simple philosophy; keep our operating costs low to offer the best possible price. We don't have shiny new company vehicles, or big huge warehouses, fancy showrooms or a staff of office personnel sitting around. We keep OUR costs low, so we can keep YOUR costs low!
First generation Carpenter, Oscar Titus, with his 1 yr old son, Alvin sr. - 1927
Our History
It all started with a man in Portland NewYork, Oscar Titus. He owned a cabinet store. The ground floor was their store and workshop and the second story was where the family lived. He was ripping a board on a table saw one day, and it kicked back breaking his hip, and he walked with a cane for the rest of his life.
His son, Alvin Sr, served in WW2, in the Navy, on a subchaser in the Pacific. He came to port in Detroit one weekend and fell in love with my future grandmother. When the war ended, he moved to Detroit, got married and started a family. He framed houses in Roseville and Eastpointe, and later followed in his fathers footsteps and started a cabinetry business.
His son, my father, Alvin Jr, started out as a drywaller for Utica Drywall, after being laid off, he became a new home builder, and later a house flipper, a General Contractor, a TWP Supervisor, and finally a preacher. His brother, Rick was also a licensed builder, and I studied under him for many years in the remodeling business. He now has a company in San Diego, building huge, multi million dollar custom homes.
I was on the construction sites as a child, helping my dad. I watched for hours and hours as the contractors worked. Soon I knew enough to work as a carpenter myself. Now, some 30 years later, I have built not only many homes, but also a very diverse career in the trades. Not only am I licensed builder, but have also worked as a house flipper, sider, roofer, flooring installer, cabinet installer, remodeler, general contractor, plumber, door/window installer, painter, and finish carpenter. My children now come along with me to the construction sites as i did with my father, and will perhaps someday be the 5th generation of carpenters in the Titus family.
Customer satisfaction is our #1 priority
We stand behind our work, warranty what we do, and go the extra mile because we want your future business, and we want you to refer us to others. As the owner, I put my license number, and home address, email address and personal phone number on every quote I send. I want to MAKE SURE you can get ahold of me if you have any issues at all!
Why does Experience matter?
I have come across many co trades people in the field. They have worked for a company for a few years and then decided to go out on their own. As the saying goes, “ they don’t know what they don’t know”. They are simply unaware of the potential complications that are possible on every single job. If every house were the same shape and size, and built the same way, this wouldn’t be an issue, but unfortunately that is not so.
Its this experience that sets us apart, allowing us to foresee potential problems with ideas or better ways to reach your goals, or the PROPER way to address unexpected issues. You wouldn’t want a surgeon with only a few years experience to operate on you, you want the surgeon who has seen it all with decades of experience, and wont be overwhelmed if something unexpected arises, that is 4th Generation Carpentry!
What makes us different?
Us - vs- the big companies
With the larger companies, they sell their jobs at top, or near top market price, they must try to get every dollar they can from you to cover their overhead. Then, they hire, for the most part, cheap labor. Teenagers and young adults making $15-20 an hour. They only care about quality to the extent that they cant get CAUGHT doing bad work. They are not concerned about having customers next month, year, etc. They may have one or two managers in the company that stop in and inspect and then leave, but the actual people doing your work, are inexperienced and grossly underpaid.
With 4th Generation Carpentry, the Owner is on site every day, all day, what you are paying is what he receives, and in most cases, the one performing your work. If you’re not happy, he just lost a customer and that is a lost paycheck, or worse!
Us -vs - the other small companies
So many of the small carpentry businesses are unlicensed. That leave little to no protection to YOU! If a licensed contractor does bad, or acts unprofessionally, you can report and file a grievance with the State, in some severe cases or criminal or fraudulent behavior, the contractor can be permanently banned from holding a license or even put in jail. Many of the LLC companies are more worried about being sued, than doing good work. Did you know that an LLC is the only type of company a convicted felon can own?
another issue with the other little guys, is that they are inexperienced. I have seen countless people, work in the trades, see all the “big money” and start their own company. They know how to do alot of the work, but not how to handle everything, and many have no idea how to run a business.
4th Generation Carpentry, on the other hand, the owner holds a BBA as well as a Paralegal certification. We know how to run a business, and we have literally been in this trade our whole life!

What to expect
We typically arrive on site between 9 and 930 am. This give you time to wake up and do your morning routine. We prep the work area, setting up drop clothes, moving furniture, etc. and then we set up a outdoor work site, to fabricate goods, prep materials, etc. We then confirm the materials are all on site and begin our work. We typically don’t clean up until the end of the day, or until we are done working in that spot. We do the “rough” work first and then the “finish” work, just like new construction jobs. We then do a very respectful clean up of all the areas we were in, cleaning as we would want someone in our house to do. We do final inspections, ask you to do an inspection. If all looks good, we pack up our tools, and collect a final payment.
